How to Review AI-Generated Marketing Assets Before You Publish
17 July 2026 · 5 min read
AI-generated assets have a particular trap: they look finished. A rough draft signals "check me." A polished, confident-looking graphic signals "ship me" — even when the blue is wrong, the logo is subtly distorted and the headline makes a claim your legal team never approved. The gloss disarms the reviewer. So the review step for AI content has to be more deliberate, not less.
Here's a practical checklist for reviewing AI-generated marketing assets before they go out under your brand.
Why AI assets need a different review
When a human designer produces an asset, they carry your brand context — they know the logo file, they have the font installed, they've absorbed the tone. An AI has none of that unless you gave it, and even then it approximates. So the errors are different: not "this looks unfinished," but "this looks right and isn't." That means eyeballing for polish is exactly the wrong instinct. You have to check against the standard, deliberately.
The pre-publish checklist
Run every AI-generated asset through these, in order.
1. Brand elements
- Logo: Is it your actual master file, placed by a human — not an AI re-drawing? Correct variant for the background, correct clear space and minimum size?
- Colour: Do the colours match your exact values, or just look "brand-ish"? This is the single most common AI miss. Don't trust your eye — measure. A blue that's off by ΔE 5 reads as fine yet quietly erodes your colour consistency.
- Typography: Is the text set in your licensed brand font, or a lookalike the model chose? A substituted font is both off-brand and a potential licensing problem.
2. Content accuracy
AI doesn't just get design wrong — it invents. Check:
- Claims and stats. AI will happily generate a confident "trusted by 10,000 companies" that isn't true. Every factual claim needs verification.
- Product details. Feature names, pricing, availability — AI often produces plausible-but-wrong specifics.
- Legal and compliance. Superlatives ("the best," "guaranteed") and regulated claims need the same sign-off any human-written copy would.
3. Tone and context
- Does it sound like your brand, or like generic AI "marketing voice"?
- Is it appropriate for the channel and audience?
- Any awkward artefacts — garbled text in an image, extra fingers, uncanny details — that scream "AI-generated"?
Make the mechanical checks automatic
The content-accuracy and tone checks genuinely need a human — you can't automate "is this claim true." But the brand-element checks (logo, colour, font, spacing) are objective and are exactly where reviewers, lulled by the polish, slip. Automate those so the human can focus on judgement.
This is what HasMyBrandChanged does: set your Brand Blueprint once, then drop the AI-generated asset in — or paste the live URL — and get a check in under a minute. Colour is measured with CIE Lab ΔE, the logo is compared to your artwork, and type, layout and spacing are AI-reviewed with confidence levels, with each finding drawn on the asset. The machine handles "is this on-brand"; you handle "is this true and does it sound like us."
With AI content, the polish is the risk. Check against the standard, not against your gut.
Build it into the pipeline
For this to hold at the volume AI enables, the review can't be a manual afterthought. Bake it in: a self-check at creation, an automated brand pass at publish, and periodic sweeps of live pages. That keeps the speed advantage of AI while closing the gap it opens. For the wider approach, see staying on-brand in the age of AI and, for the leadership view of the risk, brand risk in the AI era.
The takeaway
AI-generated assets are a genuine productivity leap and a genuine brand risk, precisely because they look finished before they're correct. A disciplined review — objective brand checks automated, human judgement on truth and tone — lets you capture the speed without shipping confident mistakes.
